Get AnyDesk Running on Your Pocket Devices

The installation of AnyDesk on iOS and Android is just a few minutes long and does not differ greatly between the two.

For iOS users:

1. Search in the App Store for AnyDesk Remote Desktop.

2. Tap "Get" then unlock it with Face ID, Touch ID, or Apple ID password.

3. Once installed, open the application to initiate a session (no account needed).

4. Take note of the distinctive AnyDesk address displayed on the home screen that requires others to connect to this device.

5. To control a remote computer, type in the address of the computer to be controlled (AnyDesk address) into the “Remote Desk” field.

For Android users:

1. Open Google Play and search for AnyDesk Remote Desktop.

2. Tap "Install" and wait for completion of download.

3. Open the application, the device's AnyDesk address will be displayed on the main screen.

4. Grant consent for screen recording and accessibility if this device will be used remotely, as Android needs explicit consent for screen recording and accessibility when accessing remotely.

5. Type in a remote computer's address in the connection field to get going controlling the remote computer directly.

Once the installations are done, both platforms will show 9-digit AnyDesk Address on the main screen. This is a unique number that other people will input to get in touch with you. Basic peer-to-peer sessions require no account to be created, but with a free registration on `my.anydesk.com`, the address book will be synchronized and the sessions logged.

Seamless Remote Control via AnyDesk From Anywhere

Setting up a remote desktop connection with AnyDesk is not something that is difficult, like many competitor tools. Anything from connecting from a phone to a desktop, desktop to desktop, tablet to laptop, it's the same workflow.

Run AnyDesk on both local and remote devices. On the interface, you will see a big Remote Desk field in the top, below which is your own 9-digit address. In the connecting device, enter the remote device's AnyDesk address into this box and press the green Connect button. The remote device will pop up a screen asking you to accept a connection from the user who is trying to connect. The remote user will need to hit Accept to get the session. When the remote computer is set-up for unattended access, with a predetermined password, the connection initiates automatically regardless of the manual approval.

When the session goes live, the remote desktop will appear on you computer. Pinch-to-zoom and two-finger scroll enable amazing navigation in large desktop resolutions on smaller screens, on mobile devices. A floating toolbar on the edge of the screen makes essential controls close at hand: Switch between touch and trackpad cursor mode, bring up the on-screen keyboard, select which monitor a multi-display setup references, and set up quality of the images, depending on connection speed. Clicking on the gear icon will display Session Settings which allow you to switch on clipboard synchronisation, start file transfers or record the session for compliance.

One thing deserves special mention – file transfer. Click the file transfer icon in the toolbar and you'll see a browser with two panes, your machine's pane on the left, and the remote machine's pane on the right. Just drag and drop in or drag and drop files out, or use the upload and download buttons. Use AnyDesk's proprietary compression algorithm for high transfer speeds, which adjusts dynamically according to the bandwidth available. The remote printing capability allows you to print local documents via the distant machine eliminating the need to transfer the documents first.

Tap the Disconnect button on the toolbar to end a session. Instantly the remote device's screen goes back to normal. With a session timer when connecting in the session, freelancers and IT professionals can keep a close eye on the professional billable hours of support for precise tracking.

What AnyDesk's Built-In VPN Actually Unlocks

AnyDesk VPN Service isn't truly like a standard consumer VPN service in that it's not used to disguise any web browsing or alter the system's real-world location; it's instead used to connect two separate private networks. It establishes a secure private tunnel between the connecting device and the remote device's network for resources residing on the remote device's network to be accessed as if the connecting device were physically there, without exposing either the connecting device's or the remote network's resources to external parties.

This is particularly beneficial when you need to use shared drives, internal tools or networked printers connected to a home or office system when you're working remotely, and it also enhances your remote usability of the system. It is interesting to note that the AnyDesk VPN is currently available on installed macOS, Linux, and Android clients, which means that the iOS version mainly works as a remote desktop and file transfer service for iOS users, and not with the VPN tunnel itself.

In most cases, you will have to enable the VPN option in the settings of an existing session to begin the VPN and confirm the connection on both devices. The tunnel only allows a specific session to communicate between the two devices, preventing either from being permanently connected as an always-on privacy backdoor, but only providing a specific session to communicate. To most users, that can mean more comfortable access to certain files, internal software, networked devices, and more that they otherwise need to be physically at the site to use.

Lock Down Every AnyDesk Session You Start

Security is at the center of AnyDesk - the banking-level encryption used in all connections, even if they are for a simple file send or during the entire remote-control session. Each session is encrypted with end-to-end TLS 1.2 over RSA 2048, making data transmission between devices incredibly hard to hack.

AnyDesk provides explicit control over the functions available to a remote connection in addition to encryption for the device owner. For each session the user must make a specific choice to log in it's accessed, and, if left with intentional options, it must be accessed by a different password. Each permission for the clipboard, file transfer, audio and control can be switched on or off individually from the session toolbar, so a user can share a screen with someone without giving them full control, or can give access to files without interactive access to the computer keyboard.

If you have been using AnyDesk for some time, here are some tips to help you maintain privacy. When no one is present to explicitly accept the connection, information will not be connected unless a strong, unique password is set for an unattended connection. It's always a good idea to periodically check a session log, found in the app's settings, to make sure that only the connections you would expect have occurred. Loggingoff shared or public equipment after using it, and not saving connection passwords on devices used by others completes a good starting point for securing remote sessions truly private.

Keep Your AnyDesk Fresh and Current

Not only does it help you benefit from new features, keeping AnyDesk updated is one way to ensure that new security flaws are patched as they are discovered. The update procedure varies between platforms, but the basic rule is to use trusted and official sources for updates on all platforms.

On iOS:

1. Go to the App Store and click on the profile icon at the top right.

2. Scroll down to the list of applications that are available for updates.

3. Next, locate AnyDesk, click on the “Update” option or “Update All” to update more apps at once.

4. In iPhone Settings, under App Store, enable the automatic updates to make sure that AnyDesk is always up to date without manual checks.

On Android:

1. Tap the icon of your profile in the top corner of Google Play.

2. Tap "Manage apps & device" and then tap "Updates available" tab.

3. In the list, click on "Update" for AnyDesk.

4. Don't forget to enable auto updates for AnyDesk from the three dots menu on its Play Store page, otherwise future versions will not get added automatically.

Checking for remote access resource variations every few days, even if auto-update is configured, is an excellent practice for everyone who uses AnyDesk for working remotely frequently.
